Comparison of life in Ukraine and United States of America
Environment
Ukraine is located in Eastern Europe and it is in Eastern European Time Zone(UTC +2). It is located in a dry climate zone, nearby the Black Sea and Sea of Azov
US is located in central part of North America and includes 50 states and District of Columbia. Its area is equal to 9,826,675 km2 and it is the 3rd largest country in the world(after Russia and Canada). Also in US there is 5 time zones-Eastern time zone(UTC -5);Central time zone (UTC -6); Mountain range time zone(UTC -7); Western time zone(UTC -8); Alaskan time zone(UTC -9) and Hawaiian time zone(UTC-10). It is located between 2 oceans-Pacific ocean and Atlantic ocean. Also it has 5 different types of climate zones- Marine, Hot-dry, Mixed humid, Hot himid, Cold/very cold .
Religion
In Ukraine most people are not religious(62.5% of population), 26.8% belong to Eastern Orthodox church, 5.9% are catholic and 0.9% are protestant, 3.9% did not answer. Most churches are orthodox and are different from catholic churches because they have icons inside and consist of 4 parts-Sanctuary, Nave and Narthex and Porch.
During year 2007 in US there were Protestant 51.3%, Roman Catholic 23.9%, Mormon 1.7%, other Christian 1.6%, Jewish 1.7%, Buddhist 0.7%, Muslim 0.6%, other or unspecified 2.5%, unaffiliated 12.1%, none 4%(cia.gov). But during year 2002 there were 82% Christians, 1% Jewish, 1% Non-christian and 1% atheist(adherents.com) which shows that people start becoming atheist instead of joining Roman Catholic or Protestant church
Government
At the moment Ukraine is considered a democratic country. Its government consists of Verkhovna Rada(Legislature), Cabinet of ministers, which is led by prime minister and the president. Also there is a Constitutional court which can decide whether laws and other legal acts are constitutional and interprets Constitution of Ukraine. And law enforcement agencies in Ukraine are organised under the authority ministry of internal affairs.
Currently US is a democratic country. Its government consists of 3 branches Legislative branch which consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate, which together form the United States Congress it can declare a war, initiate legislation initiate revenue bills, impeach federal officials, and elect the President in the case of an electoral college tie(whitehouse.gov). Executive branch consists of President who is the head of the state and is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws, Vice President and a Cabinet. Cabinet and independent federal agencies are responsible for responsible for the day-to-day enforcement and administration of federal laws. These departments and agencies have missions and responsibilities as widely divergent as those of the Department of Defense and the Environmental Protection Agency, the Social Security Administration and the Securities and Exchange Commission(whitehouse.gov).Members of judicial branch are elected by senate, unlike other branches that are elected by people. The primary role of judicial branch is to interpret and apply the laws, and ensure their constitutionality.
National language(s)
In Ukraine there are 2 languages: Ukranian, which is the official language and Russian that is used in some regions. In schools students will learn both languages and one foreign language(usually English or German)
In US English is the national language, however in the state of Hawaii Hawaiian is the official language. Also in schools students learn English and one or more foreign languages
Medicine
In Ukraine medicine and surgery is extremely cheap(average expenses on medicine per person during 2011 were approximately 115 dollars). But emergency treatment you will be able to get for free. Also if you are going to buy drugs some of them will require a prescription to get. Also there are private clinics which do not have any free services.
In US medicine is not free and most of the people(85.3%) have health insurance which is provided by government, employer or they bought it themselves. Currently one family will spend approximately 21000 dollars for a healthcare in a year. Also emergency treatment is not free and can cost more than usual treatment.
Education
In Ukraine students are assigned to schools depending on the region they live in. But you still can go to a different school other than the one assigned to you . Also education in school is free, with the exception of private schools. And in schools there are no elective classes, no AP or honors classes, and each day of the week schedule will be different. But education in university is not free and during 2012 costs 500$-3500$ per year depending on the university and the career that you choose. Also passing a test is required to attend any university.
In US the education in schools is free and there is a possibility to go to school other than the one assigned to you. Also you will be able to choose some of your classes, but you must take some of the courses. Also education in colleges is much more expensive and can vary from 3000$ to 42000$ per year and it is possible to go to college from 10th grade because of early college program and taking a test is required to attend any university.
